1 Bedroom Cottage Isle of Harris

The Gatehouse Cottage Harris is situated in the historic fishing village of Rodel in the south of the Isle of Harris. Built from Lewisian gneiss-rock the cottage is over 100 years and retains all of its original charm. It is a unique one bedroomed cottage fully modernised on two levels with the bedroom on the first floor and all other rooms on the ground floor.

The Bedroom has stunning views of the surrounding mountains, all the way down over St Clements Church to the water. It has a large king-size bed with soft goose-down pillows and quilt to keep you warm but the house is always cosy as it has central heating, a Rayburn stove, a solid fuel stove in addition to its metre thick stone walls. All linen and towels are provided.

The Kitchen has a unique high vaulted ceiling with the original dark wooden beams and new solid oak floors. It is provided with both a Rayburn stove - great for baking and cooking - and also a modern electric oven and hob. It also has a Dishwasher, Washing machine, Kettle, Toaster, Microwave, 22"  slim-line TV with Freeview, Fridge Freezer, full range of cutlery, utensils, glassware and crockery.

The Bathroom has a deep relaxing bath, with complimentary Highland Soap Co. bubble bath, set on a raised level in the bathroom along with the Mira electric shower and surrounded by tiled walls and floors with mosaic tiles by the bath. Towels are provided. 

The Sitting Room is a warm and comfortable room with two large sofas in front of a stone fire place with solid fuel stove - coal is supplied, 37" slim-line TV with Freeview, stereo system for tapes/CDs and an Ipod docking station or you can just enjoy the books of which there is a healthy selection of both general and local interest. There is also a small selection of DVDs and board games.

The Hall has space for storing boots in a shelved bookcase and for hanging outdoor wear, picnic rucksack with internal cool-bag, cutlery and plates and blanket to take with you on your adventures.

There is a garden to the front and side with a small outhouse which was once a working Pottery. This remains in use as a storage area and we can arrange to store bikes or other pieces of holiday equipment for you.

On arrival there is a welcome basket filled with an Island malt and shortbread to greet you. We have complimentary Highland Soap Company products for you to use; Organic Hebridean Seaweed Soap and Wild Nettle and Heather Bubble Bath . The cupboards are stocked with basic staple foods and we also provide general cleaning products. All linen and towels are provided. If you would like a welcome food package this can be arranged, just let us know and we will send you a request sheet for you to fill out. Most people arrive on the Saturday and you must remember that on Sunday, on the Islands, it is a day of complete rest and no shops are open. If you are celebrating a special occasion we can arrange to have wine or champagne waiting for you. Please note that there is a £100 housekeeping deposit which is returned after your stay at the Gatehouse.
