Bed and Breakfast near Loch Ness
- Quiet peaceful location - Ideal base for touring - Working Farm - Open all year
Ardgarry Farmhouse built in 1868, was originally the home of the Stalker/Game keeper who was employed by the Ellice family to look after the vast Aberhalder Estate. One of his main tasks was to control the number of Deer, and leading shooting parties for the Gentry. Through the passage of time it became a small working farm “Ardgarry Farm” and eventually sold off by the Estate in the 1950’s.
Guest accommodation consists of a double en suite room housed within the farmhouse, having its own personal access door makes the room private from the rest of the house. There is also a twin-bedded en suite room situated in the Annexe adjacent to the farmhouse, the annexe is a separate building from the house which again offers total privacy for our guests. Both rooms have satellite TV/DVD & tea/coffee making facilities. The Annexe is normally used as a twin en suite, although we can offer a king size bed for bookings over 3 nights.
Laundry, drying room and Mountain Bike hire. Walkers and cyclists are most welcome to stay as they travel the Great Glen.
Unfortunately we do not accept children < 16 years of age or pets in our Bed and Breakfast, although we can offer self catering accommodation at Ardgarry Farm in either Highgarry Cottage or Highgarry Lodges which caters for all. Weekly bookings only.
We have a fine selection of friendly animals all of which wander freely about the farm. There are chickens, ducks, geese, peacocks and more. We also have Cally and Tess our two Shetland ponies, and a number of sheep.
With views across Glengarry to the surrounding mountains and pine forests, our small working Hill farm offers peace and tranquillity in an idyllic rural location well away from any major roads, and is an ideal base for a couple looking to get away from it all, yet still wanting to be centrally placed for the major tourist attractions in the area and touring the Western Highlands. To the west lies Fort William and Ben Nevis, the highest mountain in the United Kingdom. To the east is Fort Augustus and Loch Ness. Drive or cruise the length of Loch Ness to Inverness, the capital city of the Highlands, or you could visit the Isle of Skye taking in the breathtaking scenery along the way. This too can easily be accessed from Ardgarry Farm.
Local services include a hotel, post office, petrol station/shop, café & Heritage/visitor centre.
An abundance of wild life exists in and around Invergarry, including several types of deer, pine marten, wild cat, many species of birds and more. Glengarry forest is just 10 minutes walk from Ardgarry Farm. The forest has a good selection of well defined walks taking in waterfalls and the River Garry, which is regularly used for white water rafting and kayaking.
The Great Glen Way passes through the village and we are ideally located for hill or long distance walking and cycling. Most other outdoor pursuits can be accessed locally and a Water Sports centre is just 5 km away.
